How to choose a personalised sterling silver ID bracelet

Names shown in the visuals are personalisation examples presented as simulations.

Choose a personalised ID bracelet as a bracelet first: it should suit the wrist, style and habits of its wearer. Engraving then gives it meaning. A larger plate does not compensate for the wrong length; a wider chain does not automatically make the inscription better.

This guide compares models from the engraveable bracelet collection using their stated dimensions. It separates the details that change the fit from those that affect space for text.

1. Measure the wrist before choosing a length

Use a flexible tape without pulling it tight, then compare the measurement with our bracelet size guide. For a gift, a bracelet the recipient already enjoys wearing can provide a useful length reference, provided the desired fit is similar.

Bracelet length includes the jewellery and clasp; it is not the same as bare wrist circumference. Chain width and thickness also affect the feeling of room around the wrist. If between sizes, ask for advice with the exact measurement and model reference. A worn photograph does not provide a scale for your own wrist.

2. Compare chain width and plate size separately

Polished 7 mm bracelet19 cm7 mm35 × 6.20 mm
Polished 7 mm bracelet21 cm7 mm35 × 7.20 mm
Polished 8 mm bracelet21 cm8 mm40 × 8.10 mm
Aged-finish 8 mm bracelet21 cm8 mm40 × 8.10 mm
Polished 10 mm bracelet22 cm10 mm40 × 10 mm

These measurements come from the compared product listings; they are not universal rules for ID bracelets. Notice that the two lengths of the 7 mm model have different plates. The usable engraving area must retain margins within the outline.

3. Decide how much presence you want

Within this selection, a 5 mm chain gives a more discreet line than a 10 mm model. The 7 mm version provides another option to compare with the recipient’s wrist and preferences. Check the listed weight as well: jewellery of equal width can have different constructions and feel different when worn.

For other styles, explore men’s sterling silver bracelets and women’s silver bracelets. To order engraving, return to models explicitly offered in the personalisation collection: not every silver bracelet has this option.

4. Polished silver or an aged finish?

Polished silver emphasises reflections and a brighter appearance. An aged finish brings out the links’ relief with stronger contrast. This is a bracelet styling choice; it does not, by itself, establish the colour or depth of the engraving.

An aged finish may suit someone who already enjoys patinated jewellery. For a first bracelet, look at their existing accessories: bright or darker metal, fine chain or bolder pieces. These are more useful clues than an automatic rule based on gender or age.

5. Prepare the message after choosing the bracelet

The current module accepts up to 14 characters per side, spaces included. Start by choosing a short engraving message, then compare the options in our lettering and legibility guide. A name, date or initials can carry different meanings without requiring a long sentence.

The front gives the inscription a visible place; the reverse accommodates another message where the model and option allow. Check the selected bracelet length before opening personalisation, then review the information in the summary.

Engraving prices: check your model’s options

On the compared models at the time of writing, front engraving is included for bracelets priced above €89, and adding reverse engraving costs €8 including tax on the French market. Consult the product page and basket when ordering; amounts may differ by market and change over time. A no-engraving variant remains available where offered.

Final checks before ordering

  • The length suits the measured wrist and intended fit.
  • The chain width and plate suit the recipient’s style.
  • Text, dates and accents have been checked on each side.
  • The lettering and selected engraving option match the summary.
  • The total price and stated delivery timing suit the occasion.

Prepare these choices before paying: size and text mistakes are harder to resolve after personalisation. If uncertain, ask for help before having the engraving made.

Compare the sterling silver ID bracelets to personalise, choose the right fit, then decide which message it should carry.
